  • Maya 2016.5 - Batch render layers

I've been doing some light googling and reviewing of the vray documentation, but no joy.

Is it possible to render all maya render layers and vray render elements associated with that layer at once and have everything save into an multi-channel OpenEXR?

So far I only have the ability to choose which render layer I want to render at any given time. I can't find a way to render all layers at one time. Is this something I'm going to need to use MEL callbacks for or is there more of a straight forward way to do this and to get everything in one OpenEXR?

    Best,
    Clayton

I dont think this is something you can do, since render layers are seperate renders and cant be rendered all at once.
You could merge your result afterwards I guess into a big multichannel exr if you want to (In Nuke or such), but I dont think the alpha of each render layer will be linked to its RGB, so you would have to include that and add it into the render layer rgb-pass manually after you want to use the big exr-file.

But adding a render layer into a multichannel exr would be the same as having multiple frames as separate channels. Doable (but slightly tricky) to do afterwards, but I dont think it would make much sense for Vray to natively support it.

If you don't specify a render layer into the batch render when passing the command, it will render all renderable layers one after the other, but they will each output one multichannel images, for example. You can later copy the channels from one image and add them to the next one in Nuke.

You can also go to render view and under render select - render all layers, maya will go through all enabled render layers and render them out.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Dmitry and everyone else for their input.
