  • DR + GPU Cuda?

Is there any way to utilize GPU rendering over DR?

I have 10 render slaves that i use with DR. I'm looking to work more with VrayRT. Is it worth investing in GTX 1080s for all my nodes? From what i heard Octane could do this, if each node had its own copy of Octane.

Yes, use high values for rays per pixel and Ray bundle size from the RT settings and it should be fine (we have this in the FAQ). 1080s are good GPUs. They happen to be few percent faster than a Titan X, but need much less power.
For RT on the DR machines you will need render node license (it is cheaper), not a full one. I am not very familiar with Octane, but using the 1080 with it might not work so well, since the last time I decided to try, which was few weeks after the GTX 1080 release it wasn't supported and I believe this is still the case.

Please note that due to some complications, DR works with GPUs in IPR mode only. Production GPU rendering currently doesn't support DR in Maya.
