  • SceneAssembly + material Override

Is it possible to override all material in scene (by gray VRayMtl for example), if our scene made up from maya sceneAssembly?
Render layer material override not work for me.

    Thanks for your reply.

What is the V-Ray and Maya version that you are using? I just did a test on a very basic scene and Override material worked on scene assembly objects.

VRay 3.4 one of latest build, and Maya 2016

maybe you use another way to override? )
in my case(with material override on render layer), it remove material from objects and render nothing

Can you try with my file ? Assembly_override.zip
Or you can attach any samples of your project to check the setup.

          Try this "scene.mb"
          assembly_override_reaply.zip

Only that I do, I insert your assembly in new scene like assembly reference, like in our project.

Thank you for attaching your file.
It's same is here, empty renders when Override material is added and I see that you are using the Assembly reference system instead of Assembly definition used in my scene setup. For some reason the entire shading group is removed from the node when you try to use an override material on Assembly references. It looks like a limitation of the 3d platform since the same problem occurs when using Maya native materials and Maya software render. Could you please confirm that ?

              Yes, looks like that.
I came to the same conclusion about maya limitation.
That what I ask, maybe someone now another way to override material on assembly references?

I haven't found any workarounds so far.
You may try to get this working by writing a pre-render script in Mel or Python.

Maybe it's time for jump to references.
