  • Vray nightly stability

A quick question for the Vray team...do you feel the nightlies are stable enough to be relied upon as the main option for a studio renderer? Or do you recommend staying on a full release, and having a nightly as a backup in case we need any of the fixes in it, then do another full upgrade once another full release comes out?

The reason I ask is that our IT dept are resisting using the nightly and have stated that they're "notoriously buggy". So I was hoping to hear from you guys if you feel they are reliable enough to be used in full production. Cheers.

If you don't need vrsceneloader - you can live without nightlies, otherwise you don't have a choice But, we're rendering with beta with quite a success. Me having three beta versions on farm, so rendering process is quite consistent, regardless of any bugs. Tho, there were some quite interesting situations, which was solved fast, but I was near killing myself
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

While they work for some clients like Paul, I would really recommend against using the nightlies. We do break stuff regularly there. We have a "stable" branch of releases which are generally a lot safer to use.

That would be the smarter thing to do. We also have a "stable" branch based on the official releases where we can port fixes if you need them urgently.

While some clients are using the nightlies successfully, they are usually experienced enough and have their pipeline set up in a way that allows it (i.e. they can quickly revert to a build that works, in case they find any issues). For general use, I would recommend either the official releases or the builds from the stable branch on the nightly builds site.

      Best regards,
