  • Vray 3.5

    Hey,

Seeing the beta is on the way for Max, I am wondering if there is 3.5 beta for Maya?
If yes, what's the criteria to sign up the beta?
Is there a roadmap for the Vray 3.5 for Maya?

    Thanks!
    always curious...

We only have the nightly builds. The roadmap for the V-Ray 3.5 for Maya update is very similar to the Max one although it has also a bunch of other Maya specific things.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Vlado, I checked the nightly builds earlier and only saw 3.45 builds. Does that mean it hasn't reached 3.5 yet or it's there but needs special access?

We have not changed the version numbers yet.

Can you please post the Maya nightlies link.

          Cheers

Figured there was no point to start another thread, who should I talk to to get access to the nightlies?

You could email support@chaosgroup.com however we usually only give access to them if they address a specific issue that you are having. If you just want to check them out, then it might be better to wait a bit for the release (which is really close, btw). The nightlies are known to be unstable at times...

              Best regards,

                Hey Vlado and devs,

Great to see that in build 27231 that the separate IPR process window is gone. I assume the exciting in-process IPR is getting ready.
Did a quick test with one of my lookdev scene and the 1st IPR starts normally. Didn't feel the improvements in responsiveness yet. More importantly, as I stop the IPR and kick off the 2nd IPR, Maya crashes. Maya couldn't prompt to close and I have to shut it from Task Manager. On the other hand, the 1st ADV render is fine. When I press stop and render again, I got:

                Code:
                V-Ray: Starting render[2017/Feb/22|10:29:55] V-Ray: Exporting scene to V-Ray.

Would it be possible to get us that scene for investigation?

                  Best regards,

Could you see if Rendering > "Geometry Cache" is enabled? You can try disabling it if it's enabled.
Other than that, there's an option to disable in-process rendering in the IPR tab>Advanced.
However, we'd really appreciate a scene so we can reproduce the issue as we'd like to fix all In-process issues.

Uploading the scene shouldn't be a problem but let me try Mihail's suggestions and will keep you posted.

Recently we found issues with in-process IPR + plugin cache. The option is in "Render Settings > Overrides tab > Rendering", could you try to disable it ?

                        Best regards,
                        Alex

The crash is gone for IPR and the fatal error is gone as well for ADV render after I untick the "Cache geometry plugins between renders". I have tested this in a simpler lookdev scene as well as in a more complex production scene with in-process IPR.
Hope it gets addressed in newer builds.

Also, I was wrong on the first post. It IS more responsive than before. Start faster and stop more promptly. Super happy that the pause button is integrated into the IPR button in VFB. Thank you, thank you, and thank you, Vlado and devs!

I guess with the pause button, I can stop/restart IPR much less. But still, would be great if the geo and bitmap cache for IPR can make into the 3.5 official release?

Of all the great new features that will come with 3.5, I actually love the in-process IPR, prompt stop, and faster restart an IPR (with or without geo/bitmap cache) the most so far. Faster render time is always welcome, but I care more about the time you spent in front of Vray where you interact with really responsive UI and viewport to try out ideas and crank out iterations.

In tommorow's nightly builds the problem with in-process IPR + Plugin cache should be resolved. Thank you about your report.
