  • Orthographic Z-depth Height map Vray

Ok pretty simple, is it possible to create a height map using zdepth from an orthographic camera, to be used as a displacement map in another render,
My z-depth doesn't seem to work when switching to orthographic camera, I've seen this done in max.
    Thanks

Where did you see this done in 3dsMax, was it a real ortho-camera or it was a perspective camera that simulates ortho-cam?

From the top of my head you could also use world coordinates, Y axis, that would be camera independent. Using sampler info for example.

I needed this a year or two ago and hit exactly the same orthographic hurdle. Also for a displacement map of sorts.

My solution was easy enough in the end. I applied a Black>White ramp texture as a projection from the side.
I know it's scene specific, but maybe ?
