  • Vray displacement node?

Can someone throw some light on what the advantage is of adding the Vray Displacement Node to an object?

Displacement seems to work just fine by adding just the Displacement Control and Subdivision and Displacement Quality attributes to an object, and there aren't any other controls on the Displacement Node itself that seem to directly control displacement.

So I'm at a loss to understand what the point is of adding this.

    Thanks.

Yeah those options are legacy from way back. You want to use vrayDisplacement object set (create / vray / vrayDisplacement - apply single displacement to selection.

Its essentially a vray displacement node to which you can add any number of objects or groups. You can add vray attributes to that node, and plug your displacement map directly to it. Very handy

So instead of adding attributes on a per-object basis, you add attrs. to this node and can then plug multiple objects into it? Similar to an object properties node but for displacement? Is there any explicit difference/advantage other than the ability to apply it to multiple objects or groups?

yeah it works like a set. You drop your object transforms in there and they get the displacement.

Advantage is that you don't have to deal with a million per object settings, which can be a pain to control. Instead you have few displacement nodes taking care of everything.
