  • Volumetric Fog Container

I am trying to create light rays in vray. I understand how to create volumetric fog, but I do not know how to contain it to a shape.

In 3dsmax, i believe this is a called a gizmo?

How would i do this in Maya?

    Thanks!

Use e regular geometry, set its material transparency to 100% and plug the Fog-Shader in the Volume Materials slot of Object's Shading Group.
Here is a quick example of that setup:

Thanks! Is this a common method for creating light rays? Are there other solutions other than post work?

Yes, you can use vray environment fog with lights inside the volume to create light rays. You could go with rect lights with directionality.
