  • Vray/Maya rendering a bottle with liquid inside

    Hi all,
If modeling a bottle in Maya with liquid inside, what is the best practice to get nice refraction with vray? Do I need to have an outside and an inside modeled surface on the bottle?

    Thanks,
    Darlene

In case you're going to use a mesh for the liquid (instead of a simulated liquid) - the best way would be to have the bottle have a volume in its sides, i.e. have an outside and inside to the bottle itself. Then, when shading with V-Ray, it will take into account the thickness of that glass volume. You can use VRayMtl with reflection, refraction and a fog color to the refraction to tint the glass - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Mtl-Refraction.
Then you can use a separate mesh for the liquid itself - see this tutorial - it's a bit old and it's for 3ds max, but the principle still holds - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ace+Interfaces
