  • Turn off specular per object?

    Hello,

I'm working on a character using the skin shader (Vray 3.4). The character also has hair.
Is it possible to turn off the specular part of the reflection on the skin shader (I still want to use raytraced reflections)?
I know I can turn off "affect specular" on the light source, but I want to render the skin without specular and the hair with specular, turning of "affect specular" won't let me render any specular on any object.

    Thank you!

You could render out all RE and build it back out in post, bar the specular channel for the skin?

Or you can duplicate that light and make one of the light copies affect everything but that object and the other copy to affect only that object and nothing else. Then tweak affect specular.

        Thanks guys,

Both good suggestions. I was kind of hoping I had missed a "don't render specular" button somewhere in the material. Would be easier, but good suggestions still.

No, the proper way of handling this is turning of sss reflection / specular entirely, using blend material apply a vray mtl over the sss, in there you can separate the specular / reflection and control them separately.
