  • RT GPU 3.5 Feature list

Out of curiosity, is there a list of GPU features planned for support with 3.5 release? I see the supported features in Max 3.5 release looks very nice.

Will VrayMtl support be extended, roughness and dispersion? (this is a big one)
    OSL support ?

I have access to couple VCA's so very interested in more features supported primarily full VrayMtl support

Dispersion will not be supported in V-Ray GPU 3.5 for Maya, not sure about the roughness though (have to check that with Maya team).
All of the features that I can think of for V-Ray GPU will be supported in Maya 3.5 as well (excluding some Max specific, like Forest Color for example).
There is one major Maya exclusive - we found a much more efficient way to sample glossy materials in V-Ray GPU in Maya, so those will render much cleaner compared to 3.4.
OSL will not be supported in V-Ray GPU 3.5 for Maya. We plan to have MDL on the GPU (we have it in 3.5 for Max, again not sure if this is coming for Maya with the initial release). MDL is much more suitable (and superior) for GPU rendering.

      Thanks for quick response Blago!

If possible to answer: is Dispersion planned in future? Any insight on why is it being put for later or difficult to implement? is it supported in Max at the moment?
Dispersion would definitely complete renders "visually" on GPU. Full Vray Mtl support would definitely allow us to use GPU part for production animations.

Is there any estimate when the additive blend mode in the bray blend material will be supported on the GPU? I have some important shaders that use it and currently prevent me from rendering more on the GPU.

It should be supported already (additive mode in the blend material).

Yep, additive is supported in 3.5.
Dispersion has never been something that many users has asked for. I am making a note to check how hard it will be to have it on the GPU.

Sweet. Must have missed it in the release notes.

What's the partial part of the 2sidedMtl that is supported?

Yeah i would like to request dispersion and roughness, i know mental model with V-Ray gpu was to quickly preview and then render on CPU.

But in reality the only thing thats stopping RT from being used more as production in non VFX places, is just couple minor visual features:

                  1. Dispersion
                  2. Refractive roughness
                  3. Thinfilm ( on cpu its achieved through osl, shouldn't be hard to make into a shader? )

"Multiply front by diffuse" is still not supported.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done
