  • VrayMeshLight behind glass mtl emits weird lighting.

I've been stumped on this for some time now. The lighting behind the glass in my scene is emitting a strange non-glowing effect. I'm assuming it has everything to do with the glass but have yet to discover the solution. Would any of you have any suggestions or additional troubleshooting I could administer?

    Thanks!

Can you try to explain the problem with a bit more details?
Can you tell us which light is causing you troubles?
It is not obvious from the image you've posted (at least to me).

      Hello t.petrov!

I appreciate your guidance. I've uploaded another image to show you where the lighting issues are that I'm having (red arrows). The lights in my scene behind the glass aren't emitting the same glow and brightness that the others in the scene are. I expect there to be some subtle difference between lighting thats viewed from behind a glass versus lighting that is not. However, it just think it's too dim and lacks the glow it should (despite being viewed behind the glass).

Caustic issues?? I also have noticed some artifacts being displayed on some of the white objects within the scene (blue arrows). I've tried adjusting the caustics unsuccessfully up to this point.

Any suggestions on either issue would be much appreciated.

      Hope this helps.

What are the settings of the glass material?
How are you creating the lights? Is it a rect light with a texture?

The lighting I chose was the vrayMeshLights from the bulbs within the light fixtures.
Here are the setting for the boardroom glass:

            The material looks fine.

Does the problem persists if you remove everything from the scene except the glass and the lights bodies?
Can you upload a simplified scene that demonstrates the problem?
Also which build are you using? Which OS and Maya?

I just checked and the lighting problem still persists with only it (Lighting) and the glass in the scene. I'm using Maya 2017 and V-Ray 3.5 for Maya. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with me having to really crank up the intensity on the lights due to the scale of my scene being relatively large?

I'll try to recreate and upload a sample scene.

              Thanks!

I just turned off the caustics in the settings and am now getting the effect I was looking for.
