  • VRScans and Light Select

    Hi all

The reflections in Light Select, don't appear to work on the VRScans shaders?

    Cheers

In addition, is there an option for setting lights to output reflections (along with diffuse and spec).

    Cheers

I think this is known and is on the to-do list. I have to double-check that, but it should get implemented. The matter of when, however, is still a bit unclear. I'll make a note just in case.

'In addition, is there an option for setting lights to output reflections (along with diffuse and spec).'
Are there any plans to add a 'Reflection' type?

At the moment, in order to pull out the reflection only (and this applies to VRScans too), we subtract the diffuse light pass from the beauty.

This leaves us with the diffuse and reflection as separate layers, where we can spray out the reflection where needed.

Yes, there are plans. In fact we have a "full" mode of the light select that does that. It's in the nightliy builds for the moment and it will also come out with the next 3.6 service pack.

Just keep in mind that the full light select still doesn't work for VRscans, so this in particular is on the way. Most other materials should work, though.

                Hi Alex

Just looking for the stable_3.6 20170607 version, but there doesn't appear to be a mac version uploaded to the stables?

                Cheers

Just checking the initial support for light select in 3.60.01.
I don't see any 'reflection only', but I understand that this may be because the feature is new?

                  Cheers

There's mac builds from June 16, you can try those.
We don't have a reflection only mode for the moment. The light select as a feature isn't that new, the "full" mode is the new addition - it also stored GI and reflection information, which it didn't before, but we don't have a way to extract only the reflection at the moment.

                      Cool, cheers.
So the Full mode has all light information and if we subtract the diffuse and spec, we're left with the reflection which includes the GI?

Had some success with VRScans in the Light Select render element.
The only issue is some bucket errors in one of the Full lights - which might be due to a resumable render.

Oh, and the diffuse render element looks like the normal element. Is this correct?

No it definitely does not sound correct
Can you share in a bit more detail what you're doing? You're rendering out a full light select pass and then extracting from it different components?
Or is the crookedly bucketed image directly the full light select?

                              Hi Alex

This is the process so far, which might not be correct.

                              Subtract
DIFFUSE (or NORMAL) from FULL = SUBTRACT

layer this new SUBTRACT on top of DIFFUSE (Add)

This splits the out the DIFFUSE from the REFLECTION (the REFLECTION including the GI)

We can add an exposure to the DIFFUSE for example, and increase the 'lighting' to some degree.

I guess this workflow isn't perfect, as ideally we would have the GI in both the REFLECTION and DIFFUSE, but it's pretty cool.

The bucket errors didn't happen on this render, as I didn't resume the render.

                              Cheers
