  • Can I match the normal map result of mentalray?

test transitioning from the mentalray to V-Ray.

Can I match the normal map result of mentalray?
(I think gamma setup of normalmap file node is appropriate)

Basically V-Ray's Bump (normal map) is different from mentalray in calculation method?

Example Scene (mentalray material and VRayMtl setup in hypershde.)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to match 100% and have the same results. There are different shaders for the materials, different light behavior ect. In the scene that you have send us, this as close as it you could get.

You may be able to get a better match by working with the bump delta scale. From the help docs:

Bump Delta Scale ? This parameter can be decreased to sharpen the bump and Increased to blur it

It looks to me like it's just rendering in mental ray with more intensity. If you layer your normal map over top of it self in photoshop on soft light mode it will increase the intensity of your normal map. Or layer the base normal map color over to lighten.
