  • Automating baking

Hi there, I'm trying to find a way to get the 'Bake with VRay...' functionality via VRay standalone. Is it possible? All my attempts to create and render vrscenes result in baked images being saved into the path in Render Settings, rather than the path specified in the bake sets. Likewise it uses the Render Settings resolution, rather than the bake set resolution. It also doesn't seem to work with multiple geometries or UDIMs. Is it possible to do this? Our render farm has far more VRay standalone nodes than Maya nodes so baking inside Maya is less desirable than creating vrscenes and distributing those.

    Many thanks.

Unfortunately this is not possible at the moment, the bake options are a vray-for-maya-specific thing for the moment. The standalone would be able to do only what is available in the maya render settings > common tab - under the "bake engine" rollout, which does not support UDIMs, etc.
It's on our list, however, to change that in the future, only we can't really tell when exactly that would be.

Okay, thanks Yolov. If we run Maya in batch mode, and use vrayStartBake() MEL command, does that use up a VRay-for-Maya interface license?

Not sure exactly how this should work with mayabatch, but vrayStartBake() will generally work with mayapy.
I don't think we have a batch-render command for this.
