This one was driving me crazy! I knew it wasn't a communication error between the slaves and the master node, because I had other scene files that were working! An in-depth analysis of the render settings show that, in the "Overrides" section of the render settings, in the "Lighting" twirl down, the problematic scene had "Light Evaluation" set to "Adaptive". Setting this to "Full Evaluation" fixed the problem! Hope this helps!
