  • Triplanar, input node for frame offset

    Hello,
I really need to connect some kind of node to control the Frame Offset of the VrayTriplanar node. In the picture you see a simplified setup of my material.
The problem is that no matter what node I try to use I get this warning that it's unsupported. It works in the scale input for example, so I don't understand why the Frame Offset doesn't accept it.
Since the inputs are exposed I suppose you can connect some kind of node, but which one?

Not exactly sure what your intent with the node is and maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you can create anything and give it a custom attribute that is an integer and connect that and do what you want with it. I gave a locator 3 of them named FrameOffset0,1 and 2...

You can also just keyframe it?

It seems that it won't accept any texture connections, probably it's something that we'll need to look into.

Hello and thanks for your reply.
Yes, I can do the connection, but the Triplanar node doesn't accept the value, nothing in the render changes when changing the value. This is the problem.
I tried your setup, you don't get this warning below?

Hello and thanks for your reply.
Yes, I think it would be good if that worked.

What kind of textures do you want to connect to the frame offset?
I'm not sure we can give any meaningful UVs in that case.

              Hello,
              Thanks for your reply.
I don't exactly want to connect a texture, I just want to connect any kind of float number, like shown in my original post (I never mentioned textures), to let me control several offsets of several triplanar textures with one node. Is that so strange?

Please have a look at the pictures.

Picture 1: Connecting a float value into the Offset input gives a warning and isn't accepted, i.e. it doesn't work.
Picture 2: Connecting values from a color nodel into the Offset also gives a warning and isn't accepted, i.e. it doesn't work.

Just to show you a similar setup that does work I've provided these pictures.

Picture 3: In this setup I've connected a float node to the Scale input (instead of the offset input) of the triplanar node. This gives a different warning, but it works. I can control the scale of several triplanar inputs with one node.
Picture 4: Same as picture 3, but a color node is used instead of a float node. This also works to control several inputs with one node.

Bottom line, what works with the Scale input doesn't work with the Offset input. I would like it to work and I don't see why it shouldn't be possible. A scale value is just a number just like an offset value is, right?
I don't want a textured effect, I just want to be able to use one value from one source node.

              Thank you.

I thought so, I just wanted to be sure what's the use case. We could make this work.

Just an update - this is fixed in the stable builds and will be included in the next release (3.60.03).
