  • Deep as a separate render element

    Hi,

one of the things that is giving me some headaches is trying to output a single deep render element while maintaining the rest of the render elements normal multichannel exrs. This is something we used to do in Arnold, changing the driver of a single aov to deep, so that in the same batch render we could create all the passes and a separate (non color) deep data pass to use as holdout to merge different renders.
At the moment the only workflow I found is to duplicate the render layer, disable all aovs and lights, replace all materials without displacement with a gray vray material so no textures when possible are read, and send off that render to get the deep. The issue is that is not a very straight forward way of doing so, and even if scripts to automate this have been done, we still need to create new render layers.

Is there a way to avoid this and generate a single aov as deep in the same non deep render?

    Thank you,

    Gianluca
