  • Cryptomatte - without using multichannel exr output

    Hello there.

At our studio we tend to use separate exr files for each render element and that poses a few restrictions on some for the more elaborate render elements within Vray.

In another thread the topic of denoiser elements have been talked about and a solution has been given for how it can be managed within Nuke (which Ive yet to test)
    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...ender-elements

I figured I would start another one on the topic of the new Cryptomatte element.

As with the denoiser solution we can merge the separate channels inside Nuke to make up a data stream which the cryptomatte widget can use.
Unfortunately we seem to be missing an important piece, which is the meta-data for the cryptomatte (manifest and so on).
They exist on the multichannel EXR, but unfortunately I cant find it on any elements when outputting to separate files.

Perhaps if the meta-data was applied to the "base" file (the one without digits) then we could do a meta copy over and merge data for each of our cryptomatte elements within Nuke.
Alternatively(and easiest for us) the cryptomatte render element output could be handled within a single multichannel exr file (but separate file as the other elements), if the Vray internal frameworks would easily allow that.

Hope this all makes sense, looking forward to hearing peoples views and opinions on the idea.

Will make a note to look into it, but it would still be pretty low priority.

    Best regards,

      Thanks Vlado.

Crossing my fingers for at least putting the meta-data on any of the elements will be an easy one for you guys.
