  • Vray DOF - Focus Range - Break Physical Camera

Sorry in advanced if this has been asked before or is super obvious...

Is there anyway to get a render time DOF focus range that runs independent than the f-Stop? I'm running into some situations where I need to break how a physical camera works as far as the DOF is concerned.

I'd like to have a very out of focus DOF effect, but a range that I can set which ensures object within that range are in prefect focus. I can make the f-stop higher to get more of the desired "focus range" I'm looking for, then the DOF effect gets diminished.

I'll just do it with zDepth for now, but it would be nice to find out if there is an independent focus range control somewhere in Vray/Maya.

    Best,

You can use a distanceBetween node linked to the camera and the object you wan't in focus, then connect this node to the camera's focus distance. However, changing the focus distance will affect the exposure, when the distance is too close or too far away for the camera, and right now we don't have an automatic way to compensate for that for the physical camera.

Thank you Yolov. Appreciate the response. An interesting method for Maya/Vray to do this.
