  • Error message and failed render

We are getting the following error message on a couple of specific machines, with renders then failing:

    Error: line 1: V-Ray : Exception [module=1] : Rendering region

The file will render fine on other machines, so this seems to be a Vray problem, or at least is machine-specific. I can't find any useful mention of this error online.... Do we need to reinstall?

I don't think reinstall will fix it. I occasionally get this problem. Its usually related to some geometry in your scene. The error means it crashed but also its random meaning same machine can then render it fine, or try for 10 times and eventually render ok.

Can you be any more specific about the geometry being the cause? This is a pretty mature asset and hasn't had any geometry reworked since it's been working successfully. However, it has had a pretty major overhaul in terms of render layer setup. But nothing that ought to cause any problems.

I think it's on our list to make those errors a bit more informative, but I don't know when this is going to happen
If you could share a scene, we would be able to see what the problem is, since as the error suggests - it's a bit of a generic error and without any further details it would be impossible to know what's gone wrong.

I had this scene with a bunch of tanks in it. At one point the tank treads were combined into single geometry. Then they got separated into single pieces, that caused the error for whatever reason, it took Chaos group guys a while to isolate it too I spent days trying to isolate the issue, eventually brute-forcing through the failed frames until the rendered...
