  • Is VRayScatterVolume available in Maya?

    Hi,

I try to find this in Vray for Maya 3.6 but couldn't. Is it named differently or not available in Maya yet or I simply missed it. If it's not available in Maya, will Chaos Group consider add it for Vray for Maya?

    Thanks!
    always curious...

This material is not available in V-Ray for Maya.
I believe we could port it to Maya as well.
Why do you need it actually? Isn't it possible to use other materials to get similar results like FastSSS or Fog materials?

svetlozar.draganov as oglu mentioned, for accessing the randomwalk sss. If I remember correctly, Vlado said that the VRayScatterVolume is the one that has randomwalk sss implemented in a similar way. I dug around and couldn't find that in Maya.

We don't have it in Maya yet, but it can be done quite easily. How urgent is it?

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Thanks Vlado. Not urgent from my end at all. Actually, if you and the team are cooking something sss-related for V-Ray Next, I am up for waiting for that when it's ready. I sense that if nobody asked for the VRayScatterVolume to be ported to Maya other than me probably meant that most people are happy with what's available.

Oh they did ask I'm just trying to set the priority when to look into it.

                  Best regards,

                    Hi All,

Bumping / resurrecting this thread to ask vlado if the VrayScatterVolume shader did get ported over to Vray Next for Maya?
I can't see it in Vray for Maya 3.60.03

svetlozar.draganov - you mentioned that one might be able to use Maya Materials to produce similar effects? Specifically I'm after the ability to control the back scatter via the phase value - i.e. get more or less back scattering on a VDB. I can't see any phase controls on the VrayVolumeGrid to allow more or less back-scatter.

                    Any tips appreciated.

Yup it's already here, it's just a little convoluted to find:
                        Create > V-Ray > Create From V-Ray plugin > BRDF Material > BRDFSCatterVolume
                        __
