  • IPR in V-Ray Next for Maya toon shader video

    Hi devs and all,

I came across this video showing the toon shader that will be in V-Ray Next.

Just curious Hey why viewport IPR updates with much slower camera movement around 3:02 whereas it's much faster/smoother around 00:34?
    always curious...

Yeah I saw this as well. Looks like due to calculating more than one material and maybe some layering of materials. But also interested to know.

Like you Jason I am also really keen to see a much improved, stable and responsive interactive rendering session and get to see first pixels quicker than before.

It's probably all the vraydirt they piled on top of it. You could probably bake that and get a faster IPR.

edit: nevermind, I didn't see that you're talking about the delay before the first pixels, not just the render times..

chuckie7413 You've read my mind to 110% Richard. Really keen to see a) faster to first pixel, b) stable live rendering (IPR) with interactive frame rate (don't wait for let-go of mouse to update), and c) inspectable shading network (respect isolated shading nodes during IPR).

There are a lot of VRayDirt textures and the undersampling was turned off in those later parts of the video.

IPR in general has seen lots of improvements for V-Ray Next.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

                I am very disappointed.
                Is there a line control?

The V-RayToon shader looks like an advanced Ramp shader.

Line control is the most important for Toon shaders.
In this way it will not be accepted at all in the Japanimation industry.

There is time until the release; it would be best to talk to the V-Ray for Maya developers about exactly what you expect from it.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Please note that the new toon shader is scheduled to release with V-Ray Next for Maya, which will be later this year and is still months away.
The toon shader is currently in active development and user feedback is important to us to help steer development in the right direction.

There are more toon features to come and line control is one of them (it's on top of our to-do list, actually). As with any feature, however, there are many ways to do it.
So I would appreciate it if you can send me an e-mail at mihail.djurev (at) chaosgroup.com with some more details on what you need.

                      Thank you.
Feedback on the beta and unoffical builds usually happens on the beta mailing list (google group).
Please write me an e-mail if you don't have acceess already.

                      Best regards,
                      Mihail

                        Hello, mihail.djurev

                        pleased that you met developers.

relieved to hear that the line function is in ToDo.

There are lots of requests from Japanese users and I will tell you.
Since I would like to take care of opinions from other users, I may speak in beta mail list.
(I have an account of beta mail list.)

                        Best wishes,
