  • Tutorials & Training for Forest/Nature Scenes with Plants?

Hi all, can anyone recommend a good training series or tutorials related to creating outdoor nature scenes with good lighting and plant materials, using V-Ray for Maya?

For example, something like Alex Alvarez's excellent Maya Forest Techniques series (https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tu...aya-mental-ray), but I'm looking for V-Ray instead of Mental Ray.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

That is a great extensive training by Alex, the concepts would be the same for Vray as well, what you need to play with is the Vray double sided shader for the leaves, check some YouTube tutorials or the gnomon workshop for Vray related downloads.
also recent the transparency of leaves have been optimized with a new setting in the opacity channel called Clip .

Thanks for sharing this, gooseneck. I'll check out the V-Ray double sided shader and clip settings. I searched for other V-Ray tutorials on Gnomon as you suggested and this one looks great: https://thegnomonworkshop.com/tutori...ction-to-v-ray. I'm still relatively new to it so this could be really helpful in covering a lot of bases.

I wish Gnomon still allowed users to purchase single tutorials and keep them indefinitely, but I understand their motivation to switch to subscription-based due to pirating concerns.
