  • Convert vray scene to mesh

Is there a way to convert a vray scene to a mesh I can export as standard geometry ? I don't need the shaders, just the geometry. Modo for example has a feature that allows to freeze the geometry that is presented directly to the render engine and bring that back into the scene.

What I want to do is to create a proxy model of a layout that is being brought in as a vrayscene for simulation purposes.

It's possible to export geometry .vrscene via Maya native export tools, just lelect .vrscene node and click File>Export Selected.
The geometry will be triangulated but this should not be an issue if you only want to export it as a proxy.

The ply2vrmesh tool that comes with the V-Ray for Maya installation can be used to convert objects from a .vrscene file to .vrmesh files. The vrmeshes then can be restored to maya geometry from a vrayProxy node. I think in 4.0 (aka Next) the meshes can be restored to quads instead of triangles.
