Are there more simple workflows than XGEN for rendering hair and fur in Vray in Maya?

I have tried to learn xgen twice as I do not want to purchase 3rd party but I feel the integration with vray is not great. With that being said, Would a program like shave and haircut or yeti provide a more robust and simple solution? Are there others?

I'm just not sure where to begin. Here are some of the things I need to accomplish.

    - Short hair, fur
    - Long Hair, Loose strands
    - Hair with patterns driven by color and baldness maps
    - Easily rendered with vray

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

You could see if V-Ray Fur does the trick for some simpler setups that you need, there's a number of textures that can be used to drive different parameters.
XGen has the new 'interactive groomable splines' since 2017 (I believe) that seem to be quite easy to work with, you could give that one a try.
There's a few 3rd party plugins, I know Ornatrix is quite famous for good hair styling workflows and it's already available for Maya.
Then there's also Joe Alter's Shave and a haircut and Peregrine Labs' Yeti. All of the above works with V-Ray.
I'm not proficient in any of those, so I can't recommend anything for any specific workflow-related reasons.

      Thank you Yolov!

I have worked with xgen and vray before, and never seemed to have the issues I'm experiencing now. Is it possible that the new update is causing xgen to break? I am using the latest vray update.

If you can let me know what specific problems you're running into, we can have a look at it. Make sure to let us know the exact Maya and V-Ray versions + OS.
