  • How to render lens effects on commandline/farm?

In the VFB you can set lens effects or e.g. a curve. How can these effects be enabled when rendering with mayabatch commandline on e.g. a render farm?
    Best Regards,
    Fredrik

What file format are you rendering to?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

We render to EXR and in most cases Multichannel EXR.

Hey again Vlado, just checking in to see if you had any insights on this

We are still on V-Ray 3.6 but any news about this for V-Ray 4/Next would be interesting to know about too.

        Cheers!
        Best Regards,
        Fredrik

With EXR this is not yet possible. But we might get there for 4.1 (Next, Update 1, i.e. in the future). For the 8-bit formats - I need to test this with mayabatch if what's set for the VFB will get applied (I think it will, but I want to double-check). With standalone this should already be possible even with -display=0 (again - only for 8-bit image formats).

              It works with maya batch.
If your scene has settings saved for the lens effects in the VFB - they will be applied in mayabatch to png and jpg files.
By the looks of it, if you're rendering to exr with the same setup, you'll get a resultsEffect channel with the lens effects.
In addition, if you have set the lens effects mode to 'image and render element' or 'render element only' - you'll get a separate channel with the lens effects which you can add back with a simple add / plus operation in post.
This is all with V-Ray Next.
