  • Wireframe showing in render

    Hi all,

I'm having problems with the wireframe showing in renders of a project I'm working on. I've attached a screen grab of the AO render layer as it's most obvious there, but the problem is in the beauty also. It doesn't affect the normals. Smoothing the geometry does not help. I've a feeling it might be something to do with the UV's.
    I'm using Maya 2018 with VRay 3.60.05.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy.

do you have a vrayEdges texture assigned to material?

are you using edges texture anywhere? does this showup if you apply just grey material and / or disable render elements?

Thanks for the quick replies. No, no VRayEdges. I'm actually using a vrVRayScanedMtl. The wireframe still shows with a grey material and also with render elements turned off.

can you post a part of the geometry which replicates the issue for us to look at?

            Hi Dmitry,
Door attached. I've tried Set to Face, Set Vertex Normal, Soften/Harden Edges, recreating UV's, subdividing, applying different shaders. Nothing seems to fix the wireframe being visible in the render. Let me know if you figure anything out?
            Thanks.

Hey I'm not getting that in your scene at all. Although you use a scanned material (I don't have them) just using regular setup I can't make it show up...Here is a render and its scene.

No. I've a feeling it might have something to do with the lens I'm using. I'm faking an orthographic view with an impossibly long lens. The artefacts don't show with more resonable focal lengths.

it should work regardless, can you post the camera lens scene which shows the issue?

Unfortunately not. I'm working with manufacturers data and an NDA.

The problem seems to be the extreme focal length. As previously mentioned, I'm faking an orthographic camera by using a focal length of 2000. Below are screen grabs of the AO channel using a focal length of 100 and using the extreme 2000. The wireframe only renders in the extreme camera (wireframe also renders using a FL of 1000). Changing the camera to non-physical has no effect.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Are there any fixes of work arounds? FYI, camera angels have been signed off by the client so changing the camera in not an option.

                          Thanks.

I can't get this problem even if I do a 2000 fov. Can you get me a scene where the camera is already set? Maybe I'm missing something.

I couldn't get this either with large fov, there are a few things i can suggest though:
                              try without embree.
try update vray to newest version.
get a part of the exact scene and send it to support which reproduces the issue.
