  • VRay Next - Jobs submitted to farm revert shots camera to default transforms / rotation etc

    Hi,

Since updating to VRay Next from 3.60 (Maya 2016), we are noticing that jobs submitted to our farm via Deadline are rendering with the shots camera being reverted to default position (0,0,0)

The same shots rendered locally render correctly, it is only when submitted to the farm. The farms log reports that the correct camera is being used but the frames are rendered from the default camera position above.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi,
I'm going to make some tests here and see if I can reproduce it. Which Deadline version you are using and how do you submit the scene (via deadline or from the scripts inside Maya)? Also can you give me some more information about the scene like are there some specific attributes to the camera is it animated etc? If possible providing us a simplified version of the scene where the issue is reproducible would be very helpful. Thanks for the feedback.

      Hi there,

I have attached a simple scene with the camera and some proxy geo which produces the same results for me.

I have noticed that the same thing happens when setting of a Batch Render job from within Maya locally, so I think this may be an issue related to mayabatch as opposed to Deadline specifically.

      Software versions are as follows;

      Maya 2016 SP6

      VRay Next hotfix 1 4.04.02

Deadline 7.2 (same results when not using Deadline)

      Thanks

Also here is the Maya Render Log for a batch job that produces the same result (camera not in correct position or incorrect camera used)

Note* I rolled back to the previous version of VRay Next for this test.

Thanks for the scene and the log. Knowing that the issue is reproducible in batch is a great hint. I'll check it right away and will keep you posted about this.

            Thank you.

Update* I installed and tested using Deadline10 with the same results.

            Thanks

Here is how the frame renders for me from the shotCam in batch or rendered over the farm (also batch)

              Thanks

I cant help think that the issue is related to the following Error we get in Maya after VRay initializes on a new scene

// Error: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2016/scripts/others/createMayaSoftwareCommonGlobalsTab.mel line 50: setParent: Object 'commonTabColumn' not found. //

This error started since upgrading from 3.60 also.

We are currently mid production and at a bit of a stand still with rendering until we can find a solution.

                Thanks for all your help.

Just to update this even further.

Exporting to .vrscene and rendering with VRay Standalone, thus taking Maya Batch out of the equation renders correctly.

I made a few tests with your scene and din'd succeed on reproducing the issue. Both renders from the UI and batch have the same output images and they even mach the viewport camera position. I'm going to try Deadline now. Could you please share a screenshot with the difference between the final image rendered from Maya and the one rendered in batch/Deadline?

I'm sorry I didn't refresh the page and didn't saw your new posts so you could ignore my previous post. Thanks for the image and the new info. I'll keep digging in to this.

This error is shown when there are multiple renders loaded and is caused by the different renders load order. If you want to be sure that this isn't the cause (which is very possible) you can set V-Ray to be the only render auto loaded on Maya start and you should not get this error.

That is strange as VRay is the only renderer installed and the only render plugin loaded appart from the default Maya renderers. Is there a way of stopping them from being loaded? Maya Hardware, Maya Software, TURTLE etc

                          Hmm

I have had a bit of a breakthrough and narrowed down where the issue is stemming from.

We run vray from a network location as opposed to local installs. (R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\4.40.02\maya_vray\plug-ins) The above error consistently happens across all machines that are loading vray from here.

I just tried a local install and alas, the error does not happen!

This leads me to think it is something to do with the order in which the plugin is being loaded perhaps?

                            R:\software\3d\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya\2016\4.40.02\maya_vray\plug-ins

                            vs

                            C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2016\vray\plug-ins

Do you have any suggestions on how to edit the load order of the plugin from a network location?

                              Ok I spoke to soon

Really sorry but even the local install doesnt render correctly in batch mode, even though it does not produce the same error regarding the common tab.

                              Humf
