  • Background Image VFB

Hi, i have to do many preview renderings for the client with a clean white background. I'm rendering product shots, where the product is on a wrapper plane. To get a clean white background i linked a white jpg in the "Background Image" slot in the VFB. I also marked the option "save image". When i save the image now, the background is black and the background image is gone. A different idea was to copy the whole image to the windows clipboard (written in the doc with ctrl+c ). If i press ctrl+c maya brings up the message "Nothing is currently selected". Is there another way to save the 100% white background without compositing in an jpg (without environment override)? Cheers Sebastian

You should be able to drop it into the background slot of the environment in the render settings. Overrides - Environment - Override Environment - Plug into background texture. Itll create a VrayPlaceEnvTex which I think you'll need to set to "Screen". Alternatively, one thing I do sometimes when Im in a hurry is screen grab the framebuffer Fn+PrintScreen. Then paste that into Photoshop.

Hey, thank you for your answer. Yes, i already did it with the environment override. Unfortunately this is not a good solution, because i render progressive and the white isn't white then. Also the reflection in the wrapper material is affected then. Doing a screenshot is the workaround i did yesterday, but it's not the best workflow if you're doing it 50 times a day

Does the old camera image plane work the way you need?

That's nearly perfect Thank you (only thing is i have some refelctions on the background that are not there if i render on black. I thought to remember, that in older V-Ray Versions (3.6) the backplane, was not in the same color if i worked with physical camera. Anyway, it would be perfect, if i coult save the Background Image from the VFB with the image.

Im not sure what you mean about the relfections, but if its reflections coming from the image plane, you can turn those off if you scroll down in the attribute editor. But yeh, I wish there was a "save flat image" kind of button. Because also when you cache to the maya framebuffer, it doesnt take the laoded VFB BG with it.

Yes, i'm exactly your opinion and i thought the new checkbox "save image" under "Background Image" in the VFB would do this.
