  • vrimg - limitation for lightselect name

    Hi,

we've recently been running into an issue with the length of light select names in vrimg files. They seem to be limited to 64 characters. The name shows up correctly in the vrscene file.
The name shows up correctly when rendered with multi channel exr, however when rendered with vrimg file and extracted, the name gets cut off at 64 characters.
Pretty sure that the issue is the vrimg file and not vrimg2exr, cause I checked the binary in a texteditor and it the names were cut off in there as well.

Would be great to get some insight why that is and if we could change this to let's say 256 characters.

    Thx,

    Michael

    Thank you for noting that.

Currently, there is indeed limitation in the length of characters when saving in a .vrimg file. I will add this to our system as an improvement request and let you know when we have any progress.

      Hi,

The fix for this issue is available in the 4.12 stable nightlies, builds 29375 and later.
We had to extend the vrimg format, but it should be both forward and backward compatible.

Let us know if it works for you.

We discovered that the vrimg2exr tool still needs some modifications to be able to take advantage of the long names. We'll let you know once it's available.
