  • Skip hair compile time?

I'm working on a character with a bunch of fur coming from Yeti, and the hairs take several minutes to build. Most of the lookdev work is done in textures, so I can't use the IPR, which means I have to basically wait 2 minutes to see the result of every single edit I make. Is there no way to avoid having to spend all that time compiling geometry and building hairs between every render?

I have Cache geometry plugins between renders enabled, but that has never really done anything from what I can tell. Can we get a "brute force cache all geometry" option, or something like that?

    Hello,

We don't have a way to cache the results of compiling geometry at this time, unfortunately.

However, you could keep IPR running and press "reload" on the file node of the texture you're editing after each save. For some formats V-Ray will keep the file open preventing you from saving it, these are generally tiled EXR and TGA. If you cannot avoid using a tiled format while editing, you'll have to change the file name each time. Also, if V-Ray IPR is taking too many resources and preventing you from editing your textures effectively, you can pause it while editing, which will keep everything loaded, but will pause the rendering process letting you fully use your PC.

    Hope this helps,
