  • Triplanar Question

    Hello support,

I'm attaching here a scene file and my notes, trying to understand better why the Triplanar was designed to work this way, also it does not render the same as the viewport display, still on Next version.
I know how to fix this by using the settings but I wonder why is designed this way, I'm on PC windows 7 Maya 2019.2 Vray 4.12.03 CPU renders.

Please let me know what you guys think.
    Thanks
    Rodolfo.

    Well here are some answers:
You had scaled the object to 10 times the size, and that affects the triplanar since it takes object in local space. So freezing the transform would fix the issue (it will render same as in viewport) For the orientation of the letter I gave it some thought and, if you select the object then it makes sense to see the pivot axis direction, so each letter is oriented to the axis its being projected from. In the case of A its oriented to Z so the z is pointing sideways and it would make sense it is rotated as it is now.

Hi Dmitry, your explanation makes a lot of sense, I actually forgot to freeze my transforms while doing this test, you were right, the render is matching the viewport now.
As for the projection in Z it makes some sense as you describe, I guess in my head I was thinking that the projection would be better with an option for world space then? so it would project Z in the same fashion as X.
Like Maya triplanar projection node projects around the object, to me that is more intuitive.
Thank you very much for your reply.

I agree that having world space would be a good option. As to why it did not show in viewport same, I think its a bug to be honest.

After I froze transforms the render did match the viewport.
          Cheers.
