  • Multiple GPU ID Show in "Selec Device for GPU..."

    Hi Everyone,

I'm having an issue where Vray's (latest version) dialog to select GPUs for rendering shows multiple GPUs to select for rendering. Sometime different boxes are selected,I presume the GPUs that don't exist, which results in only GPU being used to render no matter if GPUs are selected or not. I've re-installed Vray a couple times which doesn't seem to resolve the Issue. I have 2 GTX Titan Xs as my GPUs running driver 440.97. I attached an image of the issue below as well as computer specs.

Windows 10.0 SR0.0 or greater (Physical RAM: 64Gb)
    Non-hybrid graphics.
Primary display and OpenGL: NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN X (NVidia) Memory: 12GB, Driver date: 10-16-2019 (M-D-Y). OpenGL Ver: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.97
    Secondary graphics devices.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN X (NVidia) Memory: 12GB, Driver date: 10-16-2019 (M-D-Y).

    Vendor Name: NVIDIA Corporation
    Render version: 4.6
    Shading Language: 4.60 NVIDIA
    Driver Date: 10-16-2019
    Driver Version: 26.21.14.4097
    Maximum Texture size: 16384 x 16384
    Z-Buffer depth: 24 bits
    Maximum Viewport size: 16384 x 16384
    Total Video Memory: 12 GB

    Thanks.

    Hi,

have you tried to delete the Environment Variable or check for Duplications?
    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ment+Variables

After you deleted it, just open the "Select Devices for Vray manager" and check.

I guess that something happens before the Environment Variable because of what I know about it is that the Manager sets the Environment Variable and not the other way around.

It's also strange that the Manager detects 2 Platforms...

    Cheers

No I haven't tried that yet, it seems more promising then the simple stuff I've tried. I looked up the Environment Variables Page on the Chaos Group website, but can't seem to find how to bring up the dialogue box you attached. Would you mind briefly explaining how to delete the GPU variables?

      Thanks.

Did the GPU Device selection work before? Since when is it?

Maybe also try the Vray Benchmark. you can also select the GPU's there. It would be interesting. Maybe it has the same Problems. I think the selection for the Benchmark is in the vrayBenchmark.exe implemented. If there's the same Problem maybe the Vray Guys can help you or its a Hardware Problem/Driver/BIOS.

Are there also more than 2 GPU in the Device Manager?

Yeah this is a fairly new issue, the GPU Device Selection window used to only have 2 cards available for selection. I think this started happening after I installed Vray Next (or the update) but I'm not positive this is the case.. I checked the device adapter and the Nvidia driver when this first started happening and again just now and all looks normal in terms of GPU index. I'll see if the Vray benchmark to see if it gives me any more insight.

Thanks for looking into this with me, no one in the office has any clue what's going on.

yeah, I never heard something like this before. So I guess it has something to do with the Update then.

yeah of course, I anyway had to wait for some renders to finish

            Cheers!

I deleted the environmental variable and the problem persists unfortunately. Hopefully Chaos finds a solution or an underlying bug to resolve the issue. Maybe it was wishful thinking but I felt good about my chances with that suggestion. I did notice that Vray says that my CUDA driver are newer than the suggested one. but I think that's pretty common and wouldn't cause the issue I'm having.

              Thanks again.

This may be because the GPUs are considered as both CUDA and OpenCL devices, which is expected if you have OpenCL drivers installed on your workstation. Could you please attach the whole screen of the GPU Device Select?

Sure thing, here ya go. FYI, only 2 devices show in the Maya/Vray render setup window.

I'm not sure if it helps, but here's information from the Nvidia control panel as well.

Thanks for the information. Try reinstalling your Nvidia drivers with the use of this tool for the uninstalling - Display Driver Uninstaller and see if that makes any difference.

                        Hi Aleksandar,

I tried the uninstall/driver cleaner tool and it didn't work, so I decided to unplug my graphics cards and swapped out their order in the PCI-E slots. Oddly enough that seemed to solve the problem. I don't know if that, in conjunction with the driver cleaner you sent was the solution, but it's solved nonetheless.

As always thanks for all your help. The cleaner tool you sent seems like it'll be useful in the future as well.
