  • Z-axis up in Maya for lighting (sun&dome) after 3dsMax import - How to?

    Hello,

I was searching half an hour:
How is it possible to adjust Vray lighting to Z-axis? Maya Prefs haven't affect.
I was importing a 3dsMax scene and want to keep Z-axis as up

I only found an old thread
    https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...t-z-y-up-issue

    Many thanks

    EDIT:
I found of course "Rendering > Z up" but it has no effect on sky.
Only solution so far is to set manual up vector at sun, which makes it very unhandy to position the sun...

    Hello,

are there any news on this topic?
We try to change our workflow, using Z-Up because all the models out of CAD comes in Z-Up. Is there a solution for sun and sky? Also the domelight seems to stay in Y-Up.

    Cheers

Apparently the Up Vector from the Rendering tab doesn't work consistently. The issue is now logged in our bug tracking system for fixing (VMAYA-9695). But the Preference Up axis seems to operate correctly on our side. Would it be possible to attach a simple example scene and let us know which V-Ray version are you using?

        Hi Zdracko,
I tried it first in maya 2018 and vray 3.60.04 when the issue appeared. Then I tried it in 2020 with vray next and it works. Should be fine for me. Same problem, when rendering on the farm though, but I think that's an issue with our settings of the farm.

        Thanks for your reply
