  • Light cache flythrough and batch render time

So it seems that if i create a lightcache file using the flythrough option, when i start the render, it takes quite a long time to get going, the time taken is proportionally related to the amount of frames in the sequence. Is this normal, because i would have thought that being baked, it wouldnt matter.

Yes, it's normal. That's what the fly-through does - computes the light cache for the entire animation to prevent flickering.
It's recommended to use it when only the camera is animated, so keep this in mind.
As a note - in the latest Update 2 to V-Ray Next we added a new light cache mode that handles animation a lot better without the need to use the fly-through mode.

Sorry the point i was making is that ive already made the cache file, and that it takes a really long time before the batch render actually starts, which kind of defeats the point of something thats cached surely. For a 600frame scene its taken an hour before the rendering actually started. If the frame range is less its quicker...still its pretty weird

Is the 'mode' set to 'from file'? Can you check the logs and see what's taking time?

yeah is set to from file, i'll try to get some log info, but i think my scene has been royally screwed by mash an vray proxies, but probably best I post that in a new thread.
