  • connecting env fog properly to a mesh?

I've looked at the documentation and it says "....Height – If the fog is not contained within a volume..."
At the moment I have a box with vray material applied to it, with no diffuse and no opacity, and I have the env fog inside the volume material in the shading group. however if I scale the box up, I need to tweak the height still.
Is there something I missing, to connect the mesh to the fog?

It is normal, you aren't missing anything. The issue here is the documentation about the matter, which is a tad misleading and will be rewritten (it is in our to-do lists). The Fog height parameter wouldn't have an effect if you use the fog as an environment volume and add members to it (the fog is a set and can hold gizmos), otherwise, it will.

I see. I wonder if it's perhaps a good idea, to get a fog that can be constrained to the mesh without being env volume. Example- having env fog using hdri, because aerial atmosphere doesn't always work well with hdri (nor should it, I think) and having a couple of meshes with strategically placed fog, like, say clouds.

Yes , I hope the Docs can explain a little bit better in the coming months, as an alternative you can use a static fluid container and that works well with hdrs and you can adjust in x, y and z the fall off , you can use as fog or dust anywhere in the scene.

Ha, that's good to know! I remember trying once, I brought something from the content browser but it was looking weird, I'll try again!
