  • Exposure capped by hidden vray setting

    Hi,

I've been using V-Ray for quite a while now but can't figure this one out.

I've a sun + sky and physical camera setup. Very standard and default settings.

Exposure works but once it hits a certain value it won't overexpose.
So I can have F stop of 1, Iso of 60,000,000 and shutter speed of .1 and it'll expose as it is F8, ISO 100 and Shutter speed of 200.

What would be going on? Is there anything that's changed with new v-ray update this year?

    "auto exposure" is off.

    Possibly Clamp max ray intensity?

So to resolve it, it seems like it was one of those "corrupt" maya sessions. You know where Maya hasn't crashed but working in it for a few hours, some parameters like the phys camera just don't work.
      Restarting Maya solved the issue.

Sorry for the thread. Just could not work this one out but it's resolved now.

This is happening again on a completely different project.

After restarting Maya, the issue persists.

Basically the scene is capped at an exposure and only 0 or 1.

In that ISO 0 = black and ISO 1>infinity is regular exposure.
This is with all exposure parameters. THey have an effect but only 0 or 1 it's bizzre.

Not sure what to do here???

Even "Auto exposure" or "Auto white balance" is broken.

scene is default settings, default sun + sky setup with regular vraymtl geo

Does it help if you reset the render settings to default?

It's not settings, it seems that the physical camera while attached to the camera and turned on, V-Ray simply fails to respect any setting linked to real world.

No difference between fstop 8 and 1 and fstop of 500 should be pitch black I would've thought?

Ok, another update. When I delete portal skylights from the scene, exposure works correctly.

It seems that skylight portals aren't working in conjunction with physical camera exposure, with 4.30.01.

I submitted a reproducible scene to suppport.

You should receive a ticket number in an auto-reply message. Could you share it? If you haven't received one, something probably happened, so it would be best to send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com again.
