  • Substance Designer MaYa Workflow (nodes never go attached)

    Hi guys,

Do you have any idea how to attach all nodes int to vRay material ?
I used the "MaYa substance node" to create a quick node, but nothing was linked. (The "MaYa substance node" is the one where you press "create" node and will create a lot of nodes, but nothing will be connect in the vRay material)

I have this nodes in my Substance Designer

    - height
    -normal
    -ambient occlusion
    -metallic
    -base color
    -roughness

I have many question about this.
Where suppose to be connected the "height" in my vRay material ?
Where suppose to be connected the "ambient occlusion" in my vRay material ? I can skeep this one, but will be nice to know where to add this node into my vRay material.
Where suppose to be connected the "metallic" in my vRay material ?
    Note:
I can guess, but a guess is not a proper way to work and take a lot of time.

Is there outside any video that shows the way how to attach the nodes created?
Will be great if Chaos Group do a Video about "how to connect better the Substance Designer (.sbar file) in MaYa"

    BTW
    I also read this too

    3ds Max:

    1. The Height is equivalent to the Displacement. You can use the height map in either the displacement slot of the VRayMtl or as a texture in the VRayDisplacementMod modifier.
    2. There isn't a separate slot for the AO, it is connected to the VRayMtl in conjunction with the Diffuse/Albedo/Base Color maps. You should multiply the diffuse map with the AO map via a VRayCompTex node and plug it in the diffuse. See this screenshot.
    3. The Metallic texture is equivalent to the Metalness. Plug it in the Metalness slot of the VRayMtl.
    4. To use roughness rather than glossiness, click the 'Use roughness' in the BRDF rollout in the VRayMtl.

    Maya:

    1. Set the texture in the VRayDisplacement (Toolbar>Assign VRayDisplacement)
    2. Similar logic as in 3ds max, but composed with a VRayLayeredTex. See this screenshot.
    3. Use the Metalness slot of the VRayMtl (Reflection>metalness).
    4. To use roughness rather than glossiness, click the 'Use roughness' in the Reflection rollout in the VRayMtl.

      Thank you aleksandar !
I also didnt have vRay 4 I just have had vRay 3. But now Im testing vRay 4 and is AMAZING and love the new texture layer
This will help me in a future. I love to connect everything by myself anytime.
      Although !

MaYa 2020 make all the connections properly for you with one click. In case someone need it.

      ONE SUGGESTION !
Will be possible to add a color or a name into the Layer Texture Node?
Any time we add a new Item in the "texture node" will be great if we can just give a name so we can understand which file is used.
Instead of seeing and searching all the time the nodes.

      Suggestion for the texture Node

      1. Add a color tab. This will visually help a lot.
      2. Add a mesh wireframe color. This will allow to change the mesh wireframe color. (small blue square on the right)
      3. Add name to the tab. This will allow users to put quick Names to remember quickly what layer it is instead of looking back and forward which node it is. There are many users that they dont change the "file name node" they just live file 1, file 2, file 3, etc ... and this is a pain going threw to all of the nodes.

I tried the node in MaYa Next and it is a sharm !
But I will really appreciate if the new vRay Layered Texture Node becomes an update as suggested
