  • Supported viewport materials and nodes

Hi, so im trying latest vray and maya 2020.1, with latest nvidia drivers.

Is there a list of supported nodes that display correctly in viewport? Layered texture for example is just black.

    Thanks

So the vraylayer tex doesnt show up in viewport, when connected to the diffuse of a material, but if you put it through a triplaner node, it works....bit odd

Layered texture is my biggest pain at the moment :/ Hmmm that's interesting, I will give it a try! Let's hope it won't cause any triplanar related issues...though I can already see a possible problems coming from triplanar. That force us to connect ALL other maps through triplanar node, otherwise diffuse will have different UVs I immagine.

Yeah...even worse than I expected, on the top of having the UVs problem and the I expect lower performance after having to connect diffuse, glossiness etc all through Triplanar node, also the texture filtering is so bad... (both file nodes have filtering on OFF).

The Layered texture is not supported at the moment, as there's limitations in the Maya API that we cannot work around. Triplanar will work on itself, but in combination with the LayeredTex it will likely produce strange results.

There isn't such a list. We've already logged a request for viewport preview of the layered tex (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-8684). I'll bump its priority additionally.

Thank you very much, we look forward to it I hoped it would arrive with the newest update...though significant Viewport 2.0 performance improvement is really nice too

                Hello,
is there any improvement to materials in the viewport with Vray5?
                (I don't have it, so I can't check it)
                Thanks

At some point around V-Ray 5 (or maybe even before that with an update to Next) we added support for the Triplanar texture. The triplanar random rotation options won't work, as that's too tricky to do, but other than that triplanar should generally work well in the viewport.

Lately, we've added support for the Coat and Sheen layers of VRayMtl and also basic support for the VRayLayeredTex. These changes are only in our internal builds for now, but they'll make it for the next update to V-Ray 5.
In the meantime we're also looking at bump support for the viewport.
