Im a max guy, so my knowledge of maya is pretty minimal.. but working on getting some maya scenes into max. we are testing vrscene and vrmats+fbx as possible options.
during my testing we first tried vrscene... works well and materials come across seemingly spot on. but in max at least, does not support object motion blur so thats a non-starter. plus the lack of editablility is a killer.
tried the same scene and exporting vrmats. scene with 30+materials, using the vrmat converter, i get loads of errors about triplanar tex being incompatible (!) and some errors about textures (bitmaps) about 10 folders created named after some of the materials, and only about 3 of them have vrmats in.
if i choose one of the ones that did not export, and export only that one, it exports, but with errors.
if i choose to create one vrmat for all of them, i get a folder, but no vrmat.
all in all, seems pretty useless.
this is with vray NEXT.
