V-Ray Error on Amazon Base 2 Linux Image

Hello guys,

I am getting the following error on the Amazon Linux Base 2 Image with Deadline 10.1.7.1:

Error: V-Ray returned non-zero error code: 127

RenderPluginException

STDOUT: /usr/ChaosGroup/V-Ray/Maya2020-x64/bin/vray.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libX11.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Do you have any idea what could be causing the issue and how to fix it?

I am going to run a few tests and let you know when I have more details. Meanwhile, could you confirm if V-Ray Standalone is rendering fine without Deadline?

Hi guys!
This looks like missing libraries on the Amazon Linux. It's possible to come across other missing libraries. As far as I recall Amazon Linux uses yum as a package manager. You can run

sudo yum install libX11-devel

to install that library.

I didn't manage to install V-Ray Standalone on this Linux, it gives me segfault upon executing the installer.

I seem to have just now got it working when running locally:
sudo /usr/ChaosGroup/VRay_Builds/vray_adv_50022_maya2020_centos7/maya_vray/bin/vray.bin

This is after registering all required environmental variables, documented here:

I haven't tried running from Deadline 10.1

To report back, nothing has changed with Deadline, same error. Ran the sudo yum install libX11-devel update to no avail.

Could you please check if the correct vray file is used, because there are 3 different files - "vray" and "vray.bin" also "vrayslave" located into the same directory.


Maybe you will need to change the path in Deadline to vray or vrayslave instead of vray.bin.
Could you also please let us know what are the steps you take prior this error message and what kind of rendering you choose in Deadline? Maybe you can send us some screenshots if you want.
Is it possible share a screenshot of where exactly this error appears and if Deadline Configure Plugin settings of V-Ray window - points to correct vray file?

Ultimately, the issue was solved by running the VRay installer, instead of running from the zip folder option. Was kind of hoping I could get it running from the zip (portable) for a more nimble network update stand point. Seems to work well via Deadline after running the installer. Thanks!
