  • Max raytrace depth bug

    Hi there,

It doesn't happen a lot but I want to cap the depth of my refraction rays. For some reason I am unable to do so. In the material I set the refraction depth to 1 but refraction keeps being traced beyond.
    Is this a known bug?
I have 2 objects in 1 separate refractive spheres and I want to show the first object inside the refracted spere, but not the object behind it (in its own refractive sphere). Makes sense?

    Thanks,

    bump!
Any ideas on how to quickly resolve this?

If I'm understanding you correctly an easier way to do this might be trace sets, which allows per object control of visibility through reflection / refraction.

        Hi, Thanks for your reply.

What I mean is that I don't want to see the red object refracted in the first sphere (on the right). But I do want to see it in the refraction of the left sphere. Scene here: https://we.tl/t-0BfJUt0cXU

Yes, trace sets. they are in maya too, I think they were in the maya version before they were in max.

I think I can manage with a trace set, yes thanks. But still, I'd like to cap the amount of rays somehow.
Seems like a bug to me, it not working at all.

              Hey there,

What's the goal with this set-up? It's curious to know the use-case here and it will help figure out the best approach for it.
