3dconnexion 3d mouse + vray RT viewport = crash

Using the 3d mouse to navigate in a Maya with Vray IPR viewport active will cause a crash pretty quickly. Very consistent crash, normally happens within a few seconds.
I contacted 3d connexion with a bug report and crash dumps and they responded...

The call stack in both crash dumps is identical.

The 3DxMaya plug-in is nowhere to be seen on the stack. However the vray plug-in is:

I would advise the customer to contact the manufacturer of the vray plug-in (ChaosGroup) and open a case with them.


The crashdumps attached were retrieved from the following machine configuration.

Intel 3770k
32gb
2x Quadro M4000
Maya 2019.2
Maya 2020
Vray Next Build 4.12.02

I have since upgraded to a 3950x based system and the latest maya + vray next; crash is still occurring. I can provide crashdumps on request.

This is interesting. I use a 3dconnexion mouse and also get crashes ALL THE TIME in 3ds Max V-Ray GPU IPR

I can get the crash in Maya Viewport IPR here and the issue is now forwarded to our developers for a further investigation VMAYA-9970. As soon as we know more, will post here.

Seems to work fine in a quick test in 3ds Max 2021 - V-Ray Next (4.3) and 5, what is your software configuration ?

We are troubleshooting the IPR crash now and it seems that the 10.7.0 version of the drivers are problematic. The older 3dconnection drivers 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 are working find in Maya 2018 and Maya 2020. It would be best to inform the 3dConnection support about that, since we can't do much at our side.
