  • Couple of issues with vrscene export rendering

    Working on my first project where we're exporting to vrscene files for rendering and two basic rendering workflow issues are causing problems for people:

    1) Leaving an active render region in the VFB when submitting to the render farm (we are using ShotGun and Deadline) will cause the frame sequence to render ONLY pixels inside the render region.

    2) Submitting a job with "Render animation only in batch mode" causes the render to fail completely, apparently because the job is not treated as a batch render at all.


    Are both of these behaviors by design? Neither seems to be particularly intuitive, and using render regions and turning on "Render animation only in batch mode" are both things that artists frequently do while doing lighting and shading work. For a regular Maya batch render it has never been necessary to worry about either of these things.

    And while we're on the subject, it would be REALLY useful to have the "Render animation only in batch mode" toggle in the VFB, or perhaps another one that affects ONLY rendering into the VFB so that we don't have to even touch the one that manages batch submissions. We've had quite a few failed renders on our current production because of this box being accidentally left checked for submitted jobs.

    Regarding the first issue - already wrote here.
    Regarding the second - This seems to work fine on my end. Could you share a bit more information about the matter such as screencap of the V-Ray and Deadline log, V-Ray and host platform versions, and a sample scene with which to test?
