So I have run into a problem recently after using VRay 5, I thought it might be a problem only I ran into but I had a friend of mine try it out and he also ran into the same problem. If I recall correctly I never had this issue back in 3.6(the last version I used). Basically, what happens is that when you use a vray material wrapper, the material doesn't seem to realize that a dome light is in the background and any meshes using the wrapper shows up as black. I've assigned a basic vray material to the base material slot, turned on shadows and affect alpha, set the alpha as -1 and most importantly checked the matte material option. This was really puzzling as I was going through youtube tutorials for the wrapper and none of em had any issues. After looking around on the internet, I found an old post somewhere else that mentions that a workaround would be to override the vray environment with the HDRI you used in the dome light. This works but isn't really a fix as you can run into other issues. Say you decided to rotate the dome light at a certain angle, but the overidden environment stays as it is and doesn't go along with the domelight's rotation, so you'll have a jarring plane on the ground looking completely different from the rest of the scenery. Anyone ran into this problem too? And if this is a universal issue with VRay 5, is chaosgroup planning to do something about it soon?

This is the correct behavior since the matte shows the Background color that's set through the Environment overrides (even though not seen through a VRayDome light). If you wish to see the dome texture, set it in that slot as already mentioned (rotating isn't an issue since you're rotating the texture itself).
