I had further look at the reported crash and indeed it happeds not only on Maya 2020, but also 2019 for me, so I have loged an issue. This is the internal crash tracker ID: VMAYA-9986

Can you please try uninstalling V-Ray, removing all files from C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\vray and C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\Maya 2020 for x64, and then installing again, to make sure there are no leftover files from a different version?
Also, can you send us a crash dump? When Maya crashes like this it usually writes them in your %TEMP% folder (C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp), with a name such as MayaCrashLog201104.1100.dmp.

Can you please also attach the .dmp file? It should be in the same place. It contains some additional information which may help us figure out why it's crashing.
Also, unfortunately we cannot reproduce it, the crash Dimitrina saw does not seem to be related and was caused by an issue with repeatedly unloading plugins (in your case it's crashing on the first loading attempt, right?).
When did this start happening? Was it after the update to 2020.3?

Yes its crashing on the first load.
Previously I had Maya 2020.2 and V-Ray Official Release Aug 6, 2020. That worked fine.
Then I updated Maya to 2020.3 and Official Release Sep 30, 2020 and never got it to work.
Tried reverting to both 2020.2 and Aug 6. release but now even that combo gives me the same crash.
The other things I changed in the meantime are GPU driver and Windows update.

We are still unable to reproduce the problem.

However, seeing that the call stack mentions Python, there's a change that could potentially fix your problem.

Please try the newest 5.0 stable nightly and let us know if the problem persists.

Looks like it was something on my end. I deleted Maya preferences and then I was able to load V-Ray.
