  • VrayClipper doubling render times in some cases?

    Hi folks

We have a issue with the render time, in some cases, when using the VrayClipper.
We are using Yeti Fur, which is often but not always the object being "removed", and are we still using vray Next 4.3 (Seemed risky to change mid production).

We are using the VrayClipper to remove intersecting hairs that are poking through clothes or other objects that the characters are interacting with.
We have used it in some shots with great effect, and would like to continue using it if possible. But we have started noticing, that in a few shots we are hitting render times that are 2-3 times higher with the Clipper, than without the Clipper enabled.

I'm not sure how the Clipper works, but I'm guessing our increase in render time could be because our main light source has to travel "through" the geo-mesh we use in the VrayClipper (mesh-mode).

If anyone have experience with the Clipper causing such issues, I would love any advice to fix it.
It would be great if we could continue using the Clipper without have the heavy render times

    Hi CopenhagenBombay

Would it be possible to strip the scene and send us a sample reproducing this so we can test in our environment? Please forward it to support@chaosgroup.com, make sure to mention this thread in the email along with exact V-Ray/Maya versions. Thanks!

      Thank you very much Nikoleta.
I'll make as clean a scene as I can and send it later today. Do you know, if I should convert the yeti-fur to alembic, or should I keep it as yeti?
