Hitting Esc when not active in the Maya UI still kills a VFB render

This is a constant problem. When rendering into the VFB, even when not active in the Maya UI, hitting the Esc key will kill the render. This really shouldn't be the case, should it? If I am typing into a browser window or working in Photoshop and need to hit the Esc key, I shouldn't have to worry about my render in another application being affected?

Thanks, so is this specifically a MAYA issue, or can it blamed firmly on the OS?

This is a question that should be addressed to Autodesk. It concerns the Windows OS version of Maya. I presume it is a Maya thing.
