  • Vray Material Issue

    Hi Folks,

I've started recently having an issue with my vray materials not allowing me to add a roughness texture.

    I get this error :

// Error: line 1: No object matches name: VRayMtl1.roughnessAmount

I've tried this in blank scenes also, so it's not a scene-related issue.
I've looked up online and it seems it's a 'Maya' issue but I've not found a viable solution yet.

Has anyone had this issue, or can anyone point me at a solution?

    Many Thanks in advance,

    Matt

    *Maya 2020
    *Vray 5

*note creating an Arnold shader with roughness works fine, but converting it to a vray material, the roughness material is no longer hooked up

Converting Arnold shaders to V-Ray seems to work fine on my end. It's most likely a Maya thing - try resetting your preferences to their defaults for starters.

Thanks, that worked a treat. I was trying to avoid doing it as it means 'setting everything up again' but you know if it works it works!

      Appreciate the help.

Ok, Scrub that! That didn't fix it!

        Maya 2020.4
        Preferences reset
        Vray 5 Hotfix 2reinstalled
New Scene then making spheres and applying Vray Mtl then adding a roughness texture to material...

So I'm getting issues here where it looks like something is getting confused. I made a video but the file was too large to send (So if anyone at Chaosgroup can help I could send it directly?).

        Basically here are the steps:
        1. Create PolySphere (1)
        2. Assign Vray Mtl (A)
        3. Assign Roughness texture

        All good so far!

        4. Create 2nd Polysphere (2)
        5. Apply new Vray Mtl (B)
        6. Assign new roughness texture

At this point, the roughness texture I am supposedly applying to Polysphere (2) appears on Polysphere (1)
Polysphere (2) has no roughness amount or texture applied.

Whenever I try to apply a roughness texture to Polysphere (2) it gets applied to Polysphere (1)
Also, Polysphere (1) with Vray Mtl (1) Shows the roughness in viewport AND in hypershade graphed But in the attribute Editor only shows the roughness amount (set to 1 with a connection (yellow number field)) but no 'texture file link.

It's just bizarre behaviour and is only happening on vray roughness.

Again, any help appreciated as i have 2 projects underway needing vray rendering and this is now stopping me from completing them.

        Many Thanks,
        Matt

        * I'd send a scene, but this was literally a blank scene!

Thanks for the feedback. The issue seems to be already fixed in the latest stable V-Ray for Maya nightly build. Try installing it and see if the issue is resolved.
